A first-year graduate student in Latin America Studies, Joanne Kreinbihl is pursuing the Indigenous Studies track with proposed research on elderly Kichwa women in Ecuador. Joanne is particularly concerned about the loss of culture and knowledge among those subject to the transformative consequences of colonialism in Latin America. Her proposed research aims to record gaps in traditional knowledge among elderly women to preserve its value for future Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. After completing her M.A. degree, Joanne intends to pursue a Ph.D. to expand her research on cultural preservation.
