Racheal is an academic advisor for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, serves as the faculty advisor for the Indigenous American Student Association, and works closely with the UF Promise Scholars program. Growing up in a small town on the Siletz Reservation in Oregon, Racheal was the first in her family to go to college. As a member of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians’ Shasta Costa and Tututni bands, Racheal has a deep personal interest in Indigenous student success. Racheal studied psychology at Western Oregon University, and Human Development and Family Sciences at Oregon State University (OSU) where she was an NSF IGERT Scholar. Racheal became interested in Academic Advising while she researched Native American Student Success at OSU. At UF, Racheal teaches First Year Florida and a UF Honors (Un)Common Reads course highlighting the book “Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants” by Robin Wall Kimmerer. Racheal hopes to continue supporting Indigenous student endeavors on campus and beyond. Outside of work, she enjoys exploring Florida with her family, traveling, photography, journaling, and all things nature!
