Members of AIIS participated in a Task Force convened by UF President Kent Fuchs in the wake of the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin in May 2020. The Task Force was charged with documenting the history of African Americans and Native Americans in relation to the University of Florida. Although the bulk of their April 2022 report is devoted to African American history, one chapter details the history of Native American land dispossession that enabled the founding of UF, along with circumstances and policies that have shaped UF’s relation to Native America through today.
