Ryan Morini is Associate Program Director of the UF Samuel Proctor Oral History Program, or SPOHP. He received his BA and MA in Comparative Literature from Penn State University, and his PhD in Cultural Anthropology from UF. His main research focus is on heritage politics and social memory among Newene (Western Shoshones) of central and eastern Nevada, where more Newe than he can list here have helped him immeasurably. Through that work, he started the Newene Nap (“What Happened to the [Shoshone] People”) collection at SPOHP, so that over 20 interview and counting are available for current and future generations to hear the people speak in their own words and voices about their experiences and reflections. In addition, he has worked on SPOHP’s African American History Project since 2010, recording narratives of Black elders and political leaders from throughout Florida.
