Whittaker Schroder is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology. He received his PhD in 2019 from the University of Pennsylvania and was a Postdoctoral Associate at the University of Florida in the Center for Latin American Studies and the Florida Institute for Built Environment Resilience before joining the Department of Anthropology. Schroder is an anthropological archaeologist with interests in Indigenous archaeology and community and tribal engagement. As director of the Proyecto Arqueologico Bajo Lacantun in Chiapas, Mexico examining millennia of urban development, agricultural intensification, and water management, Schroder is interested in Indigenous knowledge related to addressing short-term and long-term socioenvironmental risks and how past and enduring knowledge systems can inform contemporary challenges, especially in Indigenous communties.
